48 hours in Florence

Ahh, Florence. One of the most magical places in Italy. At least, in my opinion.

This year I spent my birthday exploring this magical city in northern Italy.

Here’s what we did..

Admire the Duomo.

Duh. Everyone who goes to Florence sees the Duomo. It’s also hard to miss. This cathedral with marble plates is the place to see. You can go in, climb to the top, or sit below and take it all in. The latter was my favorite. It’s so unique.. and unforgettable!

Stroll across the Ponte Vecchio.

Ponte Vecchio

If you love shopping or water, this is your spot. Cross the bridge and check out vendors – buy jewelry, leather items, or shoes. Then stop in the middle and look out at the river and the city. There isn’t a bad view anywhere!

Grab a sandwich.

Don’t go to Florence without eating at All’Antico Vinaio. For 5 Euro you can get a MASSIVE sandwich. The chewy focaccia bread is to die for! You might have to wait in a long line and there are probably several. They’ve opened up other locations across the street and next door to alleviate long waits. Try “La Summer” or anything with truffle! YUM!!

Find a view.

wine

Most people go to Piazzale Michelangelo at sunset to get a view of the city. You can watch the sun hit the red rooftops while sipping on a glass of wine. However, it was my birthday and I wanted to do something different. We went to Ristorante La Reggia Degli Estruschi for dinner with a view.

pasta

I got the pappardelle chianina for my first course and the beef fillet with bacon and grapes for dinner.

beefThe service was AMAZING. They sang happy birthday to me in Italian and made sure my wine glass was never empty! It doesn’t get any better than that!

What are your favorite spots in Florence? I can’t wait to go back!
